City of Sugar Land - Parks Survey

TO:         Sugar Land Tennis Players

We need your help.

The City of Sugar Land is asking for public input on their Parks Master Plan and what we want the City to focus on.

If you are a resident of the City of Sugar Land, I would like you to go online and voice your opinion as the City begins to formulate their Parks Master Plan for the future.
We are interested in keeping Sugar Land moving forward with a variety of programs and facilities for us all to enjoy.

As you can imagine, we are particularly interested in getting more public tennis courts.  As you may be aware, for a City of soon to be 117,000+ we only have 4 public tennis courts at City Park.

There are HOA courts, but many areas do not have neighborhood courts. In addition, having a cluster of tennis courts, 4 or more, allows more programs and activities to be held for adults and youth.

We and the City tried a couple of years ago with the Bond Election to get funding for more courts and a tennis center, but that fell 100 votes short of getting passed.

The City is putting together a revised/updated Parks Master Plan, so we need to let them know what we want.

We really need your help on this.  At City Council a couple of years ago, we had a great turnout to show Council the interest in tennis in the community.  However, we need you to go online and express that in the Survey.

What I hear from the City is “Chuck, we know you and others want more tennis courts, but we do not hear from enough other residents that this is important enough to move this up the Agenda list.”   Historically tennis players do not organize like other groups because we play in small groups, 2 or 4 players, unlike baseball, basketball or soccer. Therefore, we need everyone to speak up.

Please take a few minutes and take the Survey indicating what you want in your City Parks and if you are interested in promoting more tennis courts, especially a Tennis Center in Sugar Land. On the survey a question about a Tennis Center and more tennis courts is listed, so the City is interested in tennis courts.

Many other Texas cities similar to our size have outstanding public tennis centers: Arlington, Laredo, Plano, North Richland Hills, etc. We feel a facility of 8-12 courts would adequately serve Sugar Land.

I encourage you to do this soon, as we are not sure how long the Survey Option will be up before the City needs to take it down and begin their planning.

Anyone can take the Survey, but the City really needs to hear from City Residents, as the survey will ask for your address.

Click this link to take you to the Survey.  Scroll down the page and you will see 2 parts where you can give your input:

“The Future of Parks Survey” (will take about 10 minutes)
“Online Town Hall” (5 quick questions)

If possible, please do both.

Thanks for your assistance in promoting “Tennis, the Sport for a Lifetime.”
